When you have completed writing your business plan, you should have answered the following questions:

  2. How much do you need?
  3. What will it be used for?
  4. How much of the company are you willing to give up?
  5. What is the exit strategy for the investor?
  6. How are the historical financials and ratios?
  7. What are the projected financials and ratios?
  8. What are the company’s existing products/services?
  9. What is the size of market for your product/service in units and dollars?
  10. How has the market for your product/service changed in the past?
  11. How do you forsee the market changing in the future?
  12. At what pace is the market growing?
  13. How will you market your product/service?
  14. What are the competitive advantages of your product/service?
  15. Who are your major customers?
  16. Who are you major suppliers?
  17. Who are your major competitors?
  18. Are there any pending legal actions against your company?
  19. Any regulations or restrictions for your product/service?
  20. What intellectual property does your company have (patents, trademarks, etc.)?
  21. Who are your key managers and personnel?
  22. What strategic relationships do you have?
  23. What is the estimated value of your company?
  24. How did you arrive at that value?
  25. What is the history of your company?
  26. Who are the owners of your company?
  27. Is there a seasonality or cyclicality of sales?
  28. What is the sales cycle?
  29. How are projected profit margins affected by outside factors?
  30. What causes margins to improve as volume increases?
  31. Is there a back-up plan to keep the company going if plans don’t work out?
  32. Does the company have recurring sales?
  33. What products/services are in the R&D pipeline?
